Bradley University: Girls Club Paving the Way for Women in Sports
Bradley University's Girls Club Hosts Informative Meeting to Outline Future Goals and Emphasizes Networking Importance.
What does Girls Club entail? Girls Club represents a dynamic and supportive community that has a mission of empowering young girls and women across various aspects of life.
More specifically while navigating the world of sports. Girls Club originated from the agreement of inclusivity, mentorship, and leadership; where girls can freely discuss and delve into their passion for sports.
On Feb 26th, with their first meeting this year Girls Club President, Delaney Giles, shared valuable insights regarding the club's mission and the fundamental motivations behind its creation.
“The goal for the club as a whole is to give women who want to go into sports a support system and a network of people who are going through very similar experiences,” Giles, Girls Club president, said.
Giles explained her vision for the organization, emphasizing the need to counter the male-dominated landscape in the sports industry by fostering a space where women feel equally at home alongside their male counterparts.
“I couldn’t help but notice that my classes were all comprised of mostly male students. While there certainly is nothing wrong with that, I did feel sort of out of place,” Giles said. “The reality is the sports industry is still male-dominated and as much as that makes it more difficult for us as women, it also gives us an opportunity to lift each other up.”
The executive board aims to uphold the values advocated by the National Girl's Club organization as a central goal of the club.
Clara Bush, co-chair for fundraising and events, joined Girl's Club with specific goals in mind and shared her aspirations for the organization.
“The ideals and aspirations of this group are unprecedented and can change the industry for all of us trying to make it in an industry stacked against us,” Bush said. “I envision us becoming a more prominent organization. Additionally, we will strive to partner and work with campus & local groups to gain a larger audience and support.”
At the heart of Girls Club, they offer access to resources, mentorship initiatives, and numerous networking prospects. Members will have the confidence, abilities, and supportive environment required to pursue their desired careers in sports.
Bradley University’s chapter goal is to carry on these values throughout the organization’s history in the hope of creating a safe and supportive community.
