Big changes coming to Bradley University
Student senate held a forum for changes they think are coming regarding diversity
Diversity has been a huge issue for Bradley university but now times are starting to change and the schools now hope to be more inclusive.
A forum on March 3rd was taken place at the Garret Center Ballroom at Bradley University introducing the new vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and also giving students the opportunity to talk about their experiences with diversity.
About the forum and new vice president
Warren Anderson originally from Phiedaliphia was brought here at Bradley University for the opportunity to bring more diversity on campus. Warren has been doing this before he was here, he was at multiple campuses dealing with hundreds of thousands of students and bringing diversity to each campus
His passion is diversity and he wants to bring it here to Bradley. During the forum, he said that he wants to bring one huge change to the university. He is planning on making mandatory 5-hour diversity training that is interactive so it actually sticks with people, he believes this is one of the best ways to make diversity and inclusion more included on campus. “You might hate me for it but it is something that has to happen”
He started caring about diversity because of the fact his college experience was not the best. He talked about how he was always stuck with the same crowd at his school. He wants to make people's experiences better than his ways.
“My goal here is for you to have more than an average experience, I want you to get up on the stage when you graduate and be proud of where you came from.” Another goal he has is to give the staff at the university more opportunities for involvement on campus and opportunities to have a more diverse staff.
Student involvement
This whole forum was set up by the student senate a student lead organization. One of the student senate members who helped run the program was sophomore Logan Caudill. He put a lot of effort and time into running this and it was for good reasons
“This forum was really important to me because it gave students a voice, it gave them an opportunity to say what they liked and disliked about the school and put effort into changes, I even talked a lot during this forum
Lots of student involvement was in the forum. The student senate would ask questions and this gave students the opportunity to talk. Many students gave their opinions on what they thought was greek life, students, and school board and staff members included diversity, this gave Warren Anderson many ideas on how to make changes to the school.
This forum was a way to introduce the new Vice President of diversity equity and inclusion, and that’s what it did. However, what it did more was it gave students a voice, it gave them an opportunity to talk and give their options on the school, something at Bradley we don’t get much of an opportunity to do so.
