An Ohio reporter was detained while reporting a press conference
Newsnation reporter Evan Lambert was held after interrupting the Ohio governor's remarks over the East Palestine railway disaster.
A Newsnation journalist was arrested on Wednesday, following a conflict between him and a National Guard officer, according to police, when he started live reporting at Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's press conference over a railway disaster and was requested to silence before the governor's speech.
Following his arrest, Lambert was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.
The press conference in East Palestine, Ohio, was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., but it didn't begin until close to 5 p.m. Lambert had been waiting for it to begin. In an interview on Wednesday night, Mike Viqueira, the NewsNation bureau chief in Washington, said that the later time fell on the same day that he was scheduled to film a live shot for the program.
While the press conference was taking place inside the gym at the East Palestine Elementary School, Lambert appeared to be attempting to provide a live report. Law officers can be seen encircling Lambert in the video taken by 3News and yelling for him to leave.
“I’m infuriated, I’m outraged — I don’t believe this should happen anywhere in America,” said Mr. Viqueira, who spoke with Mr. Lambert on Wednesday while he was in jail.
Gov. Mike DeWine. said he didn't know what happened until after it occurred.
